Disaster recovery: specialist heavy lifting solution

Ainscough Crane Hire was asked by Wainwright Group Southampton to assess the removal of equipment when the ship docked following a bad storm in the English Channel.

Bob Barnes (ACH Southampton Manager) contacted Ainscough Vanguard as it soon became apparent that specialist heavy lifting equipment & skilled staff would be required to undertake the task. Given the standing cost of the docked ship unable to set sail, a timely, safe, quick and efficient solution was required.

Ainscough Vanguard reacted speedily and Warren Hough (London Manager) was immediately dispatched to site together with Ian Mercer to commence formulating a strategic plan for the safe recovery. The heavy lifting equipment and specialized skilled staff where sourced from the network of Ainscough Vanguard branches and sent to site arriving within 24hrs of the initial call.

 

The specialist lifting equipment that required us to lift loads in excess of 50 tones and work in confined spaces with height restrictions to allow for the safe removal of the cargo included:

• 200t Hydraulic Modular Jacking System
• 2 x 40 / 60 Versalift Trucks
• 14te Pick & Carry Franna Crane
• 11te Electric Valla Crane
• 6 x Riggers & supervision
• 2 x fully equipped tackle vans
• Packing timbers / cribs / stools

Initial estimate by the client was for 3 days, however due to the unstable nature of the equipment being handled we were asked to increase the manning levels to incorporate an extra 6 man team on nightshifts to provide an around the clock service to enable the ship to sail on Sunday 22nd November.
